Dr Dre’s Beats by Dre headphones were a huge success. I bought a pair myself and was quite happy with them until they snapped. I had read stories on the Internet prior to them breaking, that there were issues with their weak support around the actual band of the headphones. I also heard from a friend of mine who went through two pairs that they broke easily. I figured that if I were careful enough, I wouldn’t have the same problem.
Wishful thinking? Yeah. Two weeks after purchase, they snapped. I don’t think I did anything crazy to put stress on the band; I just put them on normally.
I went back to 2001 Audio Video (the place of purchase) to try and exchange them seeing as how they came with a warranty. The guys there told me I had to actually mail them back to Monster, and there was nothing they could do. So, later that night I called the Customer Service line to get some assistance and information about how I could exchange my headphones. The first time calling, nobody answered. Frustrated, I called back and finally a woman answered after about 10 rings. She was extremely rude to me and did not provide much useful information at all. She said I would have to mail the headphones to them, they would assess the damage, then mail back a pair to me. This process could take up to a month, because the factory I was mailing them to, was in Ireland. MOTHER FUCKIN IRELAND! I live in Canada and the postage fees to Ireland would be at least $40 bucks for a package that size.
I then asked the woman, if I would have to repeat the same process again if they were to break. Her response was, “I don’t have a crystal ball. I cannot tell you whether or not they will break, but you seem to be exaggerating the quality of the product. They don’t break as often as you say.” She refused to answer anymore of my questions, and stated that any information I should need would be on e-mail she would send me.
Five weeks later, my headphones are still in the original box, sitting in a corner of my room collecting dust. I can’t be bothered to spend the $40 on shipping costs to MOTHER FUCKIN IRELAND. I feel like they will break again (probably because I have bad luck with these things).
After hearing about 50 Cents Headphones, I got excited. They are stylish and the Wireless Hybrid technology is simply awesome. I hope they do enough stress analysis on the durability of these headphones, because if they have the same problem the Beats by Dre headphones do, I will lose all hope in any type of headphone endorsed by a celebrity.
